Emmerdale fans think they have spotted two problems with Sam Dingle stealing from Eric Pollard as he tried to provide for the mother of his baby granddaughter. During Thursday night's trip to the Dales (February 23), viewers saw Sam asking Cain Dingle if he could give Dan Spencer a pay rise at the garage.
The new granddad had been hoping to help out Amelia Spencer, the mother of his grandchild, after her father Dan Spencer had urged the family to contribute more to the baby's upkeep, following her arrival back in October. Cain explained how he couldn't give Dan any more money.
And as Sam worried, Cain told him: "You're a Dingle, you'll find away," referring to finding the extra cash to stump up for baby Esther. However, Sam took it upon himself to steal from David Metcalfe's shop, which his dad Eric was taking care of at the time. After trying to get him out the way, Sam started to stuff his bag only to be caught in the act.
He then tried to do a runner, with Pollard in pursuit, and as they dashed out to the front of the shop his managed to get hold of Sam only for him to be pushed to the ground and hit his head. The incident was witnessed by Amelia while Sam's son Samson and Noah Dingle were also approaching the shop to find Pollard flat out on the ground.
Sam pleaded his innocence, saying he didn't mean for him to fall but upon David's arrival, the police were called and later, Eric appeared to decide to press charges after PC Swirling took statements from both Eric and Amelia.
But Emmerdale viewers were quick to point out how David phoned the police before even getting help for his dad. @IAmSamJMartin tweeted: "David calling the police instead of an ambulance whilst his dad is laid on the floor with a bang to the head #Emmerdale." @SARamsay1 wrote: "David's a bit stupid; instead of immediately phoning the police, he should phone for an ambulance for his dad! #Emmerdale." However, another viewer, @TopGearBabe, did point out: "They'd already said the ambulance was on its way..."
Meanwhile, fans of the Yorkshire-based soap were also confused as to why the Dingles never appear to have any money, and why the likes of Sam and Dan seem to be popping to the cafe and the pub regularly when they are strapped for cash.
@cassam101 tweeted: "Sam is out of order stealing from a neighbour and a friend if he cut out his butties from the cafe he could buy a pack of nappies #emmerdale." @CarolineNaen replied: "Exactly! There's no way they would be eating at the cafe if they were that hard up. #emmerdale."
@chockies20 posted: "#emmerdale so Dan is broke, cant afford the bills but was in the hide drinking coffee, now the pub on the beer !!" @aaron_dingles added: "Maybe if they didn't all spend their time in the pub, the cafe or the hide they might be able to afford things #emmerdale."
