Emmerdale fans can't seem to quite work out where things are going for Cain Dingle and long-lost brother Caleb Milligan. Cain was in prison when his brother made a sudden arrival and he's been meddling in his life ever since.
Caleb, who is the son of the late Faith Dingle, paid Cain a visit in prison on Christmas Day after he took the blame for his son, Kyle, after witnessing the youngster, played by Huey Quinn, accidentally let off a shotgun and kill Al. Initially, fans thought Cain was responsible after facing off with Al over his affair with sister Chas.
But a flashback episode of the ITV soap later revealed that it was Kyle who was the one to kill off his dad's enemy. Cain then did all he can to keep his son out of prison and took the blame for himself. However, Kyle had been struggling to keep his killer secret and Caleb's arrival prompted the schoolboy to come clean and confess.
And it's fair to say that Cain was furious with his family accepting Caleb's help. Since then, Kyle has been taken away and returned home after being bailed while the prosecution decide the next course of action. In scenes aired earlier this month, Cain headed for his first drink since his freedom with his family when Caleb arrived. He was encouraged to thank his sibling, played by Will Ash, as he claimed it was him who used his legal team to speed up Cain's release from behind bars.
Cain appeared to make amends with Caleb, or so his family thought, when reallt, instead of a hanshake, Cain pulled Caleb in close and gave him a stark warning. "Walk away while you still can," he muttered before he told him that if he ever saw him again, he would kill him.
Later, Caleb took Cain on a jaunt where he turned Cain's threats back on him. "You've got a problem with me and I'm trying to fix it," Caleb said. "I'm also trying to fix your son's problems so you could show me something. Gratitude, humility." But Cain refused and their argument ended with Caleb telling his brother: "I'll stop trying with you," but made clear that he'll be staying in the village despite Cain's orders.
And during scenes on Monday night (January 23), the warring siblings came face-to-face again and Caleb reminded Cain that it is thanks to him that he got his early release from prison, and they Kyle is back home with his family. He also noted the money he forked out on lawyers, telling Cain they will be able to help his 10-year-old son during his murder trial.
But things, again, turned tense between the pair with Cain saying: "Have you any idea how much I want to smack you?" to which Caleb responded: "Go for it, but I warned you the other day, it won’t end well for you." And their latest exchange has led fans to head onto social media to ask what Caleb's arrival in the village is really all about.
@liadaksy tweeted: "Still don’t know what Caleb’s purpose in that village is #Emmerdale." @SallyAnneHarri4 asked: "#Emmerdale & the point to Caleb is?" @itzzzo_ echoed: "What is the point of Caleb?? #Emmerdale@PGUK78 posted: "Why is Caleb so heavily involved in everything after two weeks? Ffs #emmerdale."
@DhirAvni commented: "#emmerdale I don't get the point to Caleb at all." @deanobeanos added: "Wish they'd hurry up and tell us what that caleb is up to or not to #Emmerdale." Meanwhile, others think history could repeat itself and lead to a shock exit.
@aaron_dingles tweeted: "Every Cain and Caleb scene is literally just recycled Cain vs Al scripts, grown men behaving like toddlers #emmerdale." @SarahRobron replied: "It’s like Groundhog Day every episode #Emmerdale." @mikepriestley13 then joked: "Cain vs Caleb is giving me the vibes of the fued between the Liam and Noel Gallagher #Emmerdale."
