ITV Emmerdale fans 'change minds' about Cain Dingle 'replacement' as they spot problem in threat scenes

Emmerdale fans have 'changed their minds' on one character as they were shocked to see Cain Dingle's 'replacement' take centre stage. During the latest edition of the ITV soap on Wednesday night (April 5), fans saw Charles Anderson announce to Billy Fletcher that Alex Moore was awake.

The news comes after Billy confessed to the hit and run that saw Alex fighting for his left in the hospital to the village vicar, who is currently the prime suspect in the police investigation. Viewers jumped as drug dealer Alex was mowed down in scenes aired last week as his panicked plan to steal medical drugs from the surgery played out.

But fans were furious to see that it was Billy behind the wheel after he had just been legally granted step-dad rights to Alex's children, Lucas, who he shares with Billy's wife Dawn, and Clemmie. Upon news of Alex coming round, Charles, who has instructed Billy to keep quiet, headed to the hospital to find out what Alex remembered from the accident.

Alex told Charles he was planning to tell police that Billy hit him, knowing it could land him behind bars for a long time. He added: "The only time he'll get to play dad is in the visiting room." But as Charles urged Alex to instead "do the right thing", Alex asked: "What are you doing to do? You're a man of the cloth."

And Emmerdale viewers were then left stunned as they saw a completely different side of Charles. Removing his white collar, he moved closer to Alex and issued a menacing threat. "I'm going to help you make the right choices," he said which left Alex panicking and squirming in his hospital bed.

Emmerdale shared a clip of the interaction on its official Instagram account, writing: "We all thought Cain was the most intimidating person in the village." And fans were quick to respond. @scottishdevotchka81 said: "Think I've changed my mind about Charles now."

And it's also made fans think about Charles' life before he arrived in the village. @asheila.murphy said: "Think Charles was a bad lad in his former life, go Charles." @lady_dee_49 commented: "I'd love to know what he did before he was a vicar...." @jillalanjackteddy shared: "Always thought there might be another side to Charles, cos he’s shown a tougher side now and again."

Other Emmerdale viewers, however, did think they had spotted a problem with the scenes. @Chris1968E tweeted: "#Emmerdale yea of course Charles would be allowed to go near Alex. Come on." @AgathaCrisply wrote: "As someone else has already mentioned, would Charles be allowed in to see Alex when he's a suspect? #emmerdale." @MickJohnPNEFC added: "[Charles] wouldn't be allowed anywhere near alex in real life......#emmerdale."
