ITV Dickinson's Real Deal expert quits TV job to work with Love Island daughter

After over a decade on the show, Dickinson's Real Deal expert, Cheryl Hakeney, has stepped down from the ITV programme to work with her Love Island daughter. Cheryl regularly appears alongside David Dickinson on the popular ITV lunchtime show.

The antiques expert, who made her debut on the show 14 years ago has become a familiar face on the daytime slot alongside Dickinson. Since 2006 viewers of the programme have seen people up and down the country sell their collectables and antiques to professional dealers who put in offers for the goods with their own money.

However, according to the Mirror, Cheryl has now confirmed that she didn't have enough time to film the next series as she has been busy working alongside her Love Island daughter Zara Holland on their own company. The pair own fashion business Mimi Boutique, which they say has only been growing and growing amid the pandemic and their business has doubled.

Speaking to Mail Online, Cheryl said: "I did the show for 14 years. I was one of the originals but now mine and Zara's business is booming. Unfortunately I don't have enough time to film the next series."

She revealed that she thinks Dickinson's Real Deal is very different from popular BBC show Antiques Roadshow because deals are really being made. Long-running show Antiques Roadshow offers on screen valuations to often surprised members of the public who bring along their treasures.

She said: "'Lots of people tend to think it's not our real money or we don't really buy the items but oh boy yes we do. It is a real deal and that's where the fascination is. We are real dealers, and it is our real money. I'll be truthful, sometimes I've purchased something that I've had to sell at a considerable loss.

"On the Antiques Roadshow, nobody is actually buying, and no cash is being exchanged. Nobody is going to auction so they just give their opinion of maybe what it's worth, we give a real deal there and then, people can see what happens when they go to auction."

Cheryl and daughter Zara Holland run Mimi Boutique together, which was founded in 2009. They have boutiques in Hessle, East Yorkshire and Beverley, East Yorkshire, but also sell online with items coming from Italy, Paris and the UK. Zara appeared in the second season of the ITV reality show Love Island back in 2016. Following her appearance she was stripped of the Miss Great Britain crown for having sex on the show.

Her mum said at the time: "I'm really surprised by Zara's behaviour - it's definitely out of character. But, although it's not her proudest moment, she hasn't committed any crime. I'm disappointed they took her title away. I hoped they would understand that all young women make mistakes."
