ITV Dancing On Ice fans petition for return after 'best episode ever' left them in tears

Dancing On Ice fans have been left making a very clear demand after dubbing Sunday's show the 'best episode ever' that even left some in tears.

The ITV skating competition was back on screens last night with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield helping guide us through the latest ice action.

This week the celebrity contestants and their professional partners were given the ultimate task - performing routines inspired by Olympic champions and show judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

The skating legends opened the show with a stunning routine to Take That track, Rule the World, before taking their seats on the ice panel alongside Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole was first on the ice alongside his pro partner Vanessa Bauer during Sunday night's show and kicked off the perfect scores following their skate to Let's Face The Music And Dance from the film Follow The Fleet.

Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt and singer and dancer Regan Gascoigne also scored the maximum 40 points after impressing the four-piece panel.

A shocked Phillip, 59, said: "I genuinely think this is one of the best shows we have ever done."

Regan, who is the son of former England footballer Paul, delivered a skate inspired by the circus and Torvill and Dean’s 'Barnum' performance from the World Championships in 1983 and left Jayne in tears as she told him: "We know that technically your skating has always been good, but tonight everything came together."

Visibly emotional, Regan replied: "It was such an honour to recreate part of your life."

The Vamps singer Connor Ball, who fell during last week’s show and needed stitches, delivered a tentative skate to Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel and scored 35 out of 40 before Stef Reid and Kye Whyte both found themselves in the dreaded skate-off.

After performing again, the judging panel voted unanimously to save BMX Olympic medal winner Kye for a fourth time with Stef and partner Andy being sent home just before the semi-final.

Hosts Holly and Phil also revealed next week’s semi-finals will see the celebrity contestants skate twice and also include a double elimination.

But despite all the tension on the ice, fans were making a demand for the Torvill and Dean theme to come back next year.

@Caitsm3 tweeted: "Petition to have Torvill&Dean week every year please and thankyou #DancingOnIce."

"Best night ever, absolutely love Torvill and Dean," @ snape.chris said.

@znatalie7 commented: "Amazing show tonight. We cried with happiness. Please do this theme every series."

"Omg what an amazing show tonight… I absolutely loved it! Hope they do another Torvill & Dean week in future series of the show. Everyone was fantastic especially Brendan & Vanessa & Reagan & Carina’s Barnum was amazing too.. It was great to see so many of T&D’s moves - they brought back so many memories," Debbi shared on Facebook.

Alison said: "I was in tears. Brought back so many memories my mother and I watched every skate, followed their dreams and celebrated each win with them. Lifelong fan and I miss my beautiful mother so much she would of loved tonight's magical programs."
