Coronation Street fans are set to see what lengths Justin is really willing to go to as he steps up his talking campaign against Daisy Midgeley. The character, played by Andrew Still, first made an appearance in the ITV soap in December.
He met Daisy at a doctor's surgery when she we nervously waiting for the results of a scan after she found a lump in her breast. A man nearby, who we now know to be Justin, noticed that Daisy was upset and went to sit with her. After they got talking, he told her that he was there with his mother, who has terminal cancer.
The stranger opened up to Daisy about his mother’s illness and she comforted him before she was called into her appointment where she was given the all-clear. But unbeknownst to Daisy, her kindness would come back to haunt her when she started receiving flowers out of the blue.
She at first thought they were from the DJ she flirted with at a wedding fair as she raged at her fiance Daniel Osbourne. But in scenes aired last month, Justin arrived at the Rovers Return and the penny dropped for a horrified Daisy when Justin asked her about the flowers.
When Daisy received yet another notification from her persistent online admirer, she deleted them and blocked him. But she ended up receiving several more messages on her phone from Justin asking why she blocked him and explained that he had to create a new account.
But things took a more serious turn when Daisy attended a wedding fair by herself after Daniel was called into work. While there, Daisy could be seen trying on wedding dresses when a member of staff then told her that her fiancé had turned up. Daisy said that she’d just get changed and then come out to greet him, thinking that Daniel had managed to attend after all. However, her blood ran cold and she was taken aback when she heard the man's voice to discover it was Justin.
She asked him to leave but he shared how he had come to the conclusion that he was marrying Daisy and thought her posting a picture on her socials with the wedding fair poster in the background was a sign. Daisy tried to make it clear that he’d got it all wrong and ordered him to go otherwise she'd call the police. Back at the pub, Daisy confided in Daniel, just as Glenda Shuttleworth emerged with a bouquet of funeral flowers for her leading Daisy to feel convinced that it was a sign from Justin that if he can't have her, no one can.
Daniel later spotted Justin on the street and warned him to stay away from Daisy but Justin explained that his mum’s in hospice and Daniel suggested they go to the café for a chat. Daniel then told Justin about his later wife, Sinead's, death and how stalking Daisy isn’t the answer.
Justin appeared to take his words on board and told Daisy that he was prepared to back off to give her time to break the news to Daniel that she doesn’t love him any more. Daisy and Daniel then ended up calling at the police station and reported Justin for harassment.
But unable to do anything on the spot, PC Craig Tinker advised Daisy to keep a diary of every incident. Later, Daisy was thrilled to receive a sample wedding invitation and immediately takes a selfie to post on her socials. But when she received another deluded message from Justin, this time accusing Daniel of forcing her to report him to the police, the pair diary their latest bit of evidence.
Next week in Weatherfield, viewers will see Daisy pushed to breaking point after Justin gets hold of her number and bombards her with messages. Encountering Justin bearing a bunch of flowers on Victoria Street, Daisy storms over, hurls the bouquet onto the pavement and stamps on it.
But as Justin places a calming hand on her arm, Daisy sees red and punches him, witnessed by a shocked George. Justin reveals his mum has just died and he was visiting George to sort the arrangements. Daisy bursts into tears on Daniel’s shoulder. PC Jess then invites Daisy to the station because Justin has accused her of assault.
Speaking about his character for the first time, Andrew, who used to star in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, told the Manchester Evening News and other press: "I see Justin as this troubled guy and we are meeting him at the lowest point in his life. His mum, who he has been caring for, is dying of cancer and have just spent their last Christmas together.
"He [then] meets Daisy in this emotional state and he's latching right on to her. But in terms of Justin himself, I think he's intelligent, I think he's forward, I think he's proud and like what I was saying, we're finding him in this really highly emotional, damaged state and I think this is playing a lot into his thought process and decision making."
Asked what the end goal for Justin is, Andrew commented: "Obviously he's got this distorted view of love and what that romantic relationship would be but I think that is [being with Daisy] is his end goal for him."
But it has now been revealed that Justin is a "very dangerous" character who will go to extreme lengths to get what he wants. "He's really determined," Andrew said. "He's so strong that nothing's going to change his mind. He's fully committed to Daisy and it's just a matter of time before she sees it as he does. He's laser-focused and will go to whatever ends he feels are necessary."
