ITV Corrie fans swooning as they recognise heartthrob newcomer from another soap

Coronation Street fans recognised a familiar face as they tuned in to Wednesday night's episode (December 21). In the latest hour-long trip to Weatherfield, Daisy Midgeley had a worrying wait for her test results following a cancer scare.

The Rovers Return barmaid recently discovered a lump in her breast and was at the hospital with her beau Daniel Osbourne. She and Daniel were seated in the waiting room for her appointment when her boyfriend went to get them a cup of tea.

A man nearby noticed that Daisy was upset and went to sit with her. After they got talking, he told her that he was there with his mother, who has terminal cancer.

The stranger opened up to Daisy about his mother’s illness and she comforted him before she was called in to her appointment. As well as swooning over the character, fans took to Twitter to say they recognised the actor as Andrew Sill who used to star in the Channel Four soap Hollyoaks.

@HollyWe16626271 tweeted: "Okay but the Scottish guy talking to Daisy needs to be a regular... because swoon... and he's also sweet and kind." @lewispringle remarked: "Oh that fella talking to Daisy was in Hollyoaks, fancied him way back when!" And @KickAssCantona2 said: "This fella talking to Daisy is from @Hollyoaks."

@RyanTheSoapking said: "That a lovely scene between Daisy and the patient's son." But a worried @JamieTVandNews asked: "They're not gonna have Daisy go through a cancer scare, then a grieving stalker are they?"

Scottish actor Andrew is best known for playing the original Joel Dexter on Hollyoaks between 2011 and 2013. The role was recast to Rory Douglas-Speed.

Andrew also played pupil Scott Fairchild in the BBC school drama Waterloo Road. He starred in the show, which is being brought back to our screens in the new year, until its final episode in 2015.

Happily for Daisy, she found out after meeting the stranger that the lump had turned out to be a cyst. Back at the pub her stepmother Jenny Connor brought out the bubbly to celebrate.
