ITV Corrie fans protest as they say heart-breaking character departure 'doesn't make sense'

Coronation Street fans protested as Toyah Battersby's dreams of becoming a mum were dashed again. On Friday there was classic Corrie drama as Toyah revealed at her adoption hearing with fiance Imran Habeeb that he had been cheating on her and had a secret baby with their drug addict neighbour Abi Franklin.

She told the social worker that she couldn't go through with the adoption with Imran for Elsie's sake. "I can't risk you hurting her too," she said. And she told him: "That's what you do. That's what you are. You're a liar."

Fans were cheering in Monday night's episode (April 4) as Toyah decided to adopt Elsie on her own. But she was devastated to be turned down by the social worker who said it wouldn't be in Elsie's 'best interests' while Toyah is going through a split.

Upset viewers took to Twitter to have their say. And they said Elsie's departure doesn't make sense.

@RyanGTweetsTV tweeted with a heartbroken emoji: "Poor Elsie."

@MsNottledim said: "Don’t be mean. Toyah would be a brilliant mum."

@fussyMcWhiskers begged: "#corrie please let Toyah adopt Elsie!"

And they disagreed with the social worker.

@CxxPIPxx said: "So, Elsie's best interests will be best served by disrupting her childhood yet again and sending her back into care."

@_TS_13 tweeted: "I'm pretty sure it's not in Elsie's best interest for her to be up and moved in with another family either."

@tvdramaspoonie wrote: "This doesn't even make sense. Ripping Elsie from the only home and loving parents she's had and lived with for months now is a lot more traumatic than letting Toyah adopt her."

@DionPetrie urged: "Let her adopt the wee lassie."

And @moore95_pamela commented: "Elsie is settled and happy with Toyah...why on earth would they uproot her again."

A heartbroken Toyah explained to the four-year-old that Imran had to go away. And she gently told Elsie that she was going to a new 'forever home.'

"You're going to meet some new people," she said.

"Your forever family and they'll love you just as much as I do."

On Wednesday there's drama as Imran says an emotional goodbye to Elsie before telling Abi he will help her fight to keep her son.

And Toyah reveals social services have reported him to the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority for his involvement in Abi’s custody battle.
