His tangled web of lies and deceit have drawn the unsuspecting people of Weatherfield in for months, and Coronation Street fans made a plea as they watched Stephen Reid's latest antics. On Thursday (December 29) Corrie watchers saw the rogue businessman have a shocking showdown in the street with Teddy Thompkins which ended with Teddy fighting for life.
The father of civil engineer Leo, who began a relationship with Rovers Return landlady Jenny Connor last year, angrily confronted rogue businessman Stephen over the disappearance of his son. Teddy revealed that Leo had never arrived in Canada to start a new life as expected, the texts he sent had come from Weatherfield and he intended to break the news to his fiancee Jenny.
As Stephen, who pushed Leo to his death from the Underworld factory back in September as he threatened to expose his financial troubles, panicked that the net was closing in, Teddy was suddenly hit by a van. In the soap's New Year's Eve episode, Jenny revealed that she’d had a call from the hospital informing her that Teddy had taken a turn for the worse, and Stephen was quietly thrilled.

Stephen lied to a distraught Jenny that just before Teddy’s accident, he had confided in him that he saw Leo in Canada and he made it very clear that he never wanted to see either of them again. As the New Year celebrations began Stephen and Jenny looked cosy as they watched the fireworks together and she gave him a kiss to thank him for being there for her.
Stephen then sidled up to another admirer Elaine Jones, who he has also drawn into his devious schemes, and told her that he’s got a feeling 2023 is going to be a good year. But just as Stephen was thinking he'd come away unscathed again, the scene cut to Teddy opening his eyes in his hospital bed.
Fans flocked to Twitter to beg that Stephen should not get together with Jenny after spotting their closeness. In September the pair kissed after she thought her relationship with Leo was over and he was attempting to get his hands on the pub.
@RyanTheSoapking pleaded: "PLEASE DO NOT LET JENNY & STEPHEN GET TOGETHER." @EnfieldGarry complained: "Oh Stephen stop being around Jenny so much."
@Tonguetwisteruk asked: "@itvcorrie #corrie #coronationstreet Stephen is to make another move on Jenny?" And @mikepriestley13 said: "Corrie do not put Stephen with Jenny in 2023 for god sake."
And things don't bode well for Stephen if does have designs on Jenny again. This week she returns from the hospital with Teddy in tow and helps him into the pub, and Stephen watches in despair.
