Soap watchers were in hysterics as they watched killer Stephen Reid's latest antics on the Coronation Street cobbles. The bogus businessman was a mix of panic and fury after bumping off Teddy Thompkins in the previous episode, but soap viewers couldn't help laughing.
After cracking Teddy over the head with a hole punch, Stephen concealed his body in a roof box on his mum Audrey Roberts' car. But he was later horrified to learn that Audrey had driven off with it on a trip to the Peak District to see her friend Bev Unwin.
The drama on Monday, January 23 continued to focus on Stephen. He was at first relieved as Audrey brought the car, and the body, back after suffering a blown tyre because of the weight of the roof box, which he explained away as containing a load of old sewing machines.

But his nightmare returned as he couldn't get the car started and nephew David Platt, Michael Bailey and PC Craig Tinker came out to help while remarking on the hefty box. Even neighbours Billy Mayhew and Chesney Brown stopped to look and admire it. An amused @hollycarruthers asked: "Why is no one intrigued to what is inside the box?"
It emerged that the car was out of petrol, so David insisted on giving his uncle the keys to his car instead so Stephen wasn't late for his 'meeting', which he'd made up as an excuse so he could dump the body. Stephen then had a fraught wait for David to come back from the garden centre after buying wood chippings.
The accident-prone character finally drove to a river and dragged the hefty roof box into the water, but there was an anxious moment as he was waiting for it to sink as a passer-by approached. @ChewBarker78 scoffed on Twitter: "This is getting ridiculous now. Just end this Stephen storyline now #Corrie." And @Sarah2022x said: "I think I'm gonna have to stop watching #corrie until Stephen has left."
