The new year hasn't been any more kind to Summer Spellman as she lurched into yet another drama on Coronation Street. After being diagnosed with diabetes, battling with bulimia and her dreams of going to Oxford University in tatters after cheating in an exam, the 18-year-old ended up being held hostage in dramatic soap scenes.
Last year, after falling pregnant with boyfriend Aaron Sandford, Summer was introduced to Esther and Mike Hargrave by her guardian, archdeacon Billy Mayhew. When the truth about her pregnancy was revealed the couple, who are parishioners at Billy's church, offered to adopt her baby in exchange for £10,000 to pay for her boyfriend Aaron Sandford's alcoholic father Eric to go into rehab.
Tragically, after receiving the funds, Summer suffered a miscarriage, and she has since agreed to act as a surrogate for the couple instead, which Billy has supported despite not agreeing with her decision. But concerns were raised when Leanne Battersby told Billy that Mike had flirted with her at the bistro.

And then a member of the congregation at Mike and Esther’s old church came forward claiming she had an affair with Mike. Summer was shocked to find out that Mike already had a secret son.
Furious, she headed over to Esther and Mike’s but was horrified when Mike locked her in the nursery without her phone and insulin. In Monday night's episode of the ITV soap, Summer was out cold Aaron and Billy worried that they couldn’t get hold of her.
Aaron was suspicious after he headed over to the house but was sent packing by Mike who lied that Summer had gone shopping with Esther and would get her to call him when she was back. Mike finally unlocked the nursery door, but was horrified to find Summer unconscious.
Suddenly Esther arrived home and demanded to know what was going on. She called an ambulance while Mike gave her a tale about Summer trying to back out of the surrogacy plan and how he detained her in the hope he could change her mind.
In the hospital nurse Aggie overheared Mike giving a false name 'Davina Latte' for Summer and contacted Billy. After rushing to be by her side Billy, with Summer's other dads Paul Foreman and Todd Grimshaw, had a dramatic run-in with the creepy couple when Esther screamed the truth about Mike holding her captive in the nursery, and Mike did a runner.
Later, after Summer talked to the police and was surrounded by her three dads, Billy joked: "Never a dull moment." And the teen wailed: "I thought I was going to die."
Fans couldn't get over Billy's response to the horror unfolding as they noted that he didn't miss a visit to their friendly local cafe Roy's Rolls while she was still missing. @I_am_KenBarlow #Corrie Vicar's in the cafe. I mean, looking for Summer is important, but a brew and a sausage roll come first."
@HannahF_24 pointed out: "Summer’s missing and her phone’s dead, but yes Billy, you just sit there talking about bum doctors with Bernie." @ruth_clark asked: "#corrie why hasn't Billy gone to the police?"
@secretking19 wondered: "Why is Billy and Summers boyfriend in the cafe having a cuppa and not round Mike’s house?" And @Helz2011 exclaimed: "So Aaron say Mike is dodgy and Billy is in the cafe!!"
@cb_038 remarked: "Billy, Aaron & Todd all in the cafe again.. they're hardly ever at work!"@cb_038 sniped: "Billy, Aaron & Todd all in the cafe, I mean where else would they be!" And @rkarl80 said: "Billy finally realises something might have happened to Summer."
