ITV Corrie fans baffled by Griff arrest as Spider swoops in to save the day

Heroic Spider Nugent finally succeeded in his mission to bring down extremist Griff Reynolds and his gang in Coronation Street as the racist gang leader was arrested in Sunday night's episode. At the end of the episode he snuck into the Platt household to talk to troubled teen Max Turner, who he has lured into his gang.

There was high-octane drama last week when a bomb was planted in the middle of the street's new peace markets. For months, viewers of the ITV soap have been watching evil Griff and his cronies increase their presence on the famous street while grooming impressionable Max.

It became clear that the group held racist views, bullying and attacking refugee Daryan Zahawi and also targeting his new employer at the Speed Daal restaurant Alya Nazir. Affable eco-warrior Spider Nugent also appeared to be pals with Griff while hiding a surprising secret.

As Spider revived his relationship with ex Toyah Habeeb, it was revealed to viewers that he was an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the gang. But last week Griff revealed to Spider that he knew his true identity before brutally attacking him in a ginnel, whacking him over the back of a head with a crowbar.

With Spider out of the way being treated in hospital after being branded a "grass" by Griff, the gang continued with their big plan. Max finally came through for his neighbours and warned something bad was going to happen after spotting the Speed Daal van out on some wasteland, which then appeared back on the street.

When Alya checked over the van, she spotted an exposed wire and after giving it a slight tug, a timer dropped from the glovebox and quickly realised the van was minutes away from exploding. Instead of waiting for the police, she decided to get the van to where less people were at risk of getting hurt before it exploded.

On Sunday night, Griff confronted Max and, as things descended into a heated row, Daryan overheard shouting. He informed Max's dad David Platt and after the exchange was overheard by Alya she called Spider, who was last seen discharging himself from hospital.

As Griff fought with David at 8 Coronation Street, Spider burst in and interrupted the bloody punch-up, arresting Griff on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Viewers were left amazed. @Piggy_1969 tweeted: "#corrie Last we saw Spider was at death's door or have I missed one?, or has Corrie been in the tardis again and skipped time, I'm literally so confused." @griannedoherty3 asked: "Spider's made one helluva recovery already seriously?"

@OliReading wondered: "#Corrie how did Spider just dash in the nick of time!" And @stansto19044667 exclaimed: "Wow,that was quick, Spider was in a hospital bed, forward a few hours and there he was in charge of a full squad of coppers, amazing speedy recovery."

Other fans were celebrating, including @Clawmaw who cheered: "Griff has been caught!!!!!! Thank God for that! Even better that it was Spider that arrested him!" @ToriaTowers said: "Spider rushing in like Shaggy and the rest of the Scoobie Gang."

@yasmin_ali10 shouted: "#corrie FINALLY SPIDER DOING THE HONOURS." @see75 applauded: "Spider saves the day! #Corrie" And @EnfieldGarry said: "They got him, well done Spider."
