ITV Coronation Street teases 'carnage' on the cobbles with haunting Abi and Imran trailer

There looks set to be a showdown on the cobbles as Coronation Street teases 'carnage' with a new haunting trailer. The ITV soap has started the week on an interesting note by releasing a 40-second clip featuring warring parents Imran Habeeb and Abi Franklin.

As viewers know the pair are currently locked in a custody battle over baby son, Alfie. So far, solicitor Imran, played by Charlie De Melo, has got his way with the judge ordering he and new wife Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) take care of the tot who was born weeks early following a one-night stand last year between Imran and Abi.

Imran used paralegal Ben to get evidence former drug addict Abi, played by Sally Carman, is using again and used him as a witness in court after he spotted Abi with her old drug dealer mate, Dean, who approached her and asked for money, which she gave him to keep him off her back.

But it resulted in Abi being pictured looking like she was making a drug exchange which ultimately led to Alfie being allowed home from the hospital and straight into Imran and Toyah's career. But Abi isn't one to give up without a fight and after becoming suspicious of Ben, followed him and spotted him doing his own drug deal.

He then caught her trying to get pictures and the pair ended up in a confrontation. After a scuffle between the pair for Abi's phone, the mum issued Ben with an ultimatum – either admit Imran paid him to lie or she'd turn over the video to his boss and police. Later, Imran was alarmed to receive a call from Abi's barrister revealing new evidence had come in.

And after being confronted by Kevin over her behaviour which could land her in big trouble, she declared: "It's about time he got a taste of his own medicine."

Now it has been revealed that as the battle for baby Alfie intensifies between parents Abi and Imran, residents of the street will face the consequences in an unmissable week of episodes which promises chaos and carnage on the cobbles. The haunting preview starts when Abi and Imran lock eyes.

As the parents come face to face, the camera spins, throwing each of them to the floor in turn, and back up again as their story unfolds behind them, in the first scene we see Imran’s wife, Toyah, holding a crying Alfie as she is still struggling to cope with the revelation that her new husband was unfaithful and slept with Abi, resulting in him fathering baby Alfie and subsequently losing the child they were due to adopt.

Confusion is then seen etched on Imran's face as he slams to the ground and, rotating again, sirens blare, and the police dash towards a pained Abi. In the garage, Kevin darts to his estranged wife, his vision of a reconciliation having been shattered by the discovery that a one-night stand with Imran led to Alfie's birth.

Abi falls and Imran rises and this time he is joined by a panicked Adam, while Toyah is comforted by Leanne and Nick. Like a creepy carousel, around and around it goes, as more neighbours are pulled into Imran and Abi’s abyss.

The stunning week of episodes will be on screen later this month. MD Continuing Drama & Head of ITV in the North, John Whiston said: "The pigeons really do come home to roost for some of Corrie's best loved characters in this fantastic week of edge of your seat drama. Secrets unravel, truths hurt and lives well and truly turn upside down as the lengths Imran went to to take baby Alfie away from Abi are revealed. Whether your sympathies are with Abi, with Toyah or with Imran, this is not a week to be missed."
