Ryan Connor will be seen struggling to come to terms with his injuries as he returns to the street following the acid attack. Coronation Street fans were left horrified last month when they watched the DJ struck by the clear liquid after it was launched at Daisy Midgeley by her stalker Justin Rutherford.
Ryan found himself in the crossfire when Justine returned to Weatherfield after months of harassing the Rovers Return barmaid. The menacing character, played by Andrew Still, was lurking in the shadows as Ryan and Daisy, played by Charlotte Jordan, locked up the pub ahead of her wedding to Daniel Osbourne.
Donning her wedding dress and ready to head to the venue to marry her fiancé, Daisy's blood ran cold when she heard Justin's voice. After suggesting things were too perfect for her, Justin hurled acid in Daisy's direction. But in a shocking twist Ryan, portrayed by Ryan Prescott, jumped in and was left writhing and screaming.
Daisy, who was also caught by the acid as Justin barged his way out of the pub, called 999 and was instructed to get him into the shower. After dousing him in the cold water as she desperately cut his clothes off, the emergency services arrived and rushed Ryan to the hospital where his road to recovery has begun.
Viewers have watched Ryan pushing his loved ones away as he struggles to come to terms with his devastating injuries. And next week, Ryan will face an upsetting setback. At court, Daniel Osbourne is stunned when Justin pleads not guilty at his plea hearing and braces himself to break the news to Daisy, who couldn’t face attending herself.
Daisy then calls at the hospital and breaks the news to a shocked Ryan and his former partner, Alya Nazir, who manage to convince Ryan that she should see him and be able to support him. Ryan admits he’s scared at the thought of having to relive the whole nightmare in court.
And when Alya assures him she’ll be right by his side, Ryan admits that he loves her. Daisy then takes club promoter Crystal to see Ryan in the hospital, hoping she will boost his confidence. Ryan thanks Daisy for bringing Crystal in and admits that discussing gigs in Ibiza has given him something to focus on.
With Carla there for support, Ryan tells the surgeon he’s ready to look at his injuries. But as he stares at his face the surgeon breaks the news that he is not healing as they had hoped and he needs a skin graft. Daisy and Carla head into Ryan’s room only to discover him missing and his backpack gone.
After a search part is organised, Daisy and Carla find Ryan by the tram station clearly traumatised. Daisy tells Daniel that she can’t bring herself to tell Ryan that Crystal wants nothing more to do with him. Having been told that the skin graft was successful and he’s free to go home later today.
Ryan and Carla head to the canteen but Ryan struggles when he sees a group of nurses giggling and can’t help wondering if they’re laughing at him. A little girl runs into Ryan’s room chasing her ball and stares at Ryan’s face, full of curiosity. Ryan tells Alya that he wants to be alone.
