The truth of what happened in the car crash which subsequently saw Imran Habeeb lose his life is set to come tumbling out in Coronation Street this month. While fans of the ITV soap are sure the lawyers new wife Toyah is to blame, they never saw what actually happened.
But with Toyah’s trial fast approaching, Corrie’s producer Iain MacLeod has revealed that the former counsellor will hit “crisis point” and the emotional toll of facing prison for murder sees her confess all to returning love interest Spider Nugent.
Since Spider’s return to the cobbles in June, viewers have seen Toyah falling for him all over again and join him on his latest activist quests - despite her sister Leanne Battersby’s disapproval.

This week, on the famous street, an angry protest gets underway. An apologetic Carla Connor tells shady businessman Nadeem Atallah that their deal is off after a warning from Toyah. The police soon arrive but as PC Craig Tinker urges the protestors to disperse, Spider's friend Griff rallies the crowd. As Carla and Nadeem emerge, Spider watches in horror as Griff pulls out a bottle and hurls it, hitting Craig on the head.
Griff’s arrested while a terrified Toyah finds herself caught up in the melee. And there's more drama for Toyah when her late husband Imran Habeeb's mum Saira approaches her in the street and accuses her of murdering her husband so that she could be with her ex Spider.
This looks set to be the start of a downward spiral for Toyah ahead of her court case. “The impending prospect of a life sentence for Toyah ramps up all her emotions around what’s happened, specifically what she did to Imran and her guilt around all that,” Iain told the Manchester Evening News and other press during a September Corrie preview.
“She reaches this huge emotional crisis point where she’s got this burning desire to repent or just find some kind of catharsis and she ends up unburdening herself entirely to Spider - talking in detail for the first time about what went on behind the wheel of that car and how much of it was an accident and how much was deliberate.”
While Toyah believes she’s confiding in the right person, Iain teases that she looks set to be totally wrong. “At that time, he’s the worse conceivable option in terms of who she should be confessing to,” Iain told us. “The idea is that she’s head over heels in love with this guy again and feels like he’s her one true friend in the world and she might not be wrong but she’s certainly making a huge mistake in confiding all this to him.”
Speaking of Spider, played by Martin Hancock, Iain shared how they had a “lengthy and heated” debate at Corrie HQ about who Spider is now, 25 years on since he first debuted on the cobbles, and what his life is like now.
“The answers we came up with are surprising, shocking, interesting and I think will make audiences gasp slightly when we discover exactly what’s going on with his life at present,” Iain revealed. It comes after viewers were left suspicious last month when they heard Spider make a secret phone call.
He told the caller he was “really busy” and “can’t wait to get back” leading to Corrie viewers to speculate if he's married and already has a family away from the cobbles.
