ITV Coronation Street's Lydia star sends exit message amid Adam twist as fans say it 'sucked'

After just three months on the cobbles Rebecca Ryan has bowed out of Coronation Street as Lydia Chambers.

The bunny boiler character was seen for the last time during Wednesday night's hour-long edition of the ITV soap after spending her time on-screen trying to ruin Adam Barlow's life.

But Lydia finally told the truth following Adam's horror accident that left him at risk of losing his sight. A shove from Lydia had left him tumbling over the railing from the first floor of a shopping centre, landing right in front of his horrified uncle Daniel Osbourne bloodied and bruised.

Lydia was discovered to be a former university flame of her friend Sarah Barlow's husband and, after he failed to recognise her on their first meeting, she set about taking revenge for his actions all those years ago. She had been stalking him ever since while plotting to wreck his marriage to Sarah by claiming she had been having an affair with Adam and planting evidence to make him look guilty.

But during dramatic Coronation Street scenes on Monday night, Lydia and Adam entered into another confrontation after he attempted to record their conversation but to no avail as Lydia quickly worked out his plan. After she tried to escape and head up the escalator, the pair entered into another confrontation where an emotional Lydia jogged Adam's memory about their time dating back at university and how badly he treated her.

She told how she was left seeking an abortion alone when she fell pregnant at the age of 19. As he apologised for his actions back then, bringing up his own family life that he believes played into his persona, Lydia had to rush off to collect her son, Finn, from school.

However, when Adam asked if Lydia could tell Sarah the truth, Lydia became enraged and she ended up slapping Adam. As he tried to stop her walking away, Lydia Adam a hard shove and resulted in his fall.

During the last instalment of the ITV soap, doctors told Adam's family he had suffered a bleed behind the eye and needed surgery. And as he came round from surgery they were relieved to be told that Sarah had come to visit him after threatening divorce. But his visitor turned out to be a repentant Lydia, who was there to apologise for her behaviour.

After she was caught at Adam's bedside by his estranged wife, Lydia confessed to tormenting Adam, trashing her own flat and setting it up to look like they had been having an affair and Sarah called the police. But in an unexpected twist, Adam left his hospital bed and headed to the police station to give a statement which saw Lydia walk out of the station a free woman.

Taking to Instagram after the scenes aired, Lydia actress Rebecca shared a photo of herself on the Salford-based set outside The Kabin, posing with the shop's paperboy. "That's Lydia over and out!!" the 30-year-old started the post alongside the snap.

"I have had the most amazing time on the cobbles and it's an experience that I will never forget!! Thank you so much for all the lovely comments, I see them all and I appreciate every single one!" She ended the post: "Bye Lydia it's been a blast."

Rebecca's brother and fellow Corrie star Jack James Ryan, who plays Jacob Hay, was the first to comment, writing: "Refuse to believe you’ve left. See you at work tomorrow yeah?"

And fans were super complimentary of the 30-year-old who has starred in Shameless, Waterloo Road, and Casualty.
