ITV Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd leaves co-star 'fuming' as he 'ruins' soap illusion - and fans spot something that needs changing

Jack P Shephard has left his on-screen son 'fuming' after letting slip the secret behind one of Coronation Street's set illusions. The actor is best known for playing David Platt on the ITV soap having joined the cast in 2000 at just 12-years-old.

And he's spent all that time in the famous street's number 8 with mum Gail and sister Sarah, and now his own family including son Max, daughter Lily and wife Shona. But now he's reminded fans of one of his more memorable moments on the cobbles. Taking to Instagram, Jack shared a photo from his on-screen home.

It showed him on the Salford-based set sitting at top of the stairs of no.8. However, the stairs lead to nowhere and all that could be seen above was professional lighting as part of the soap's equipment and a walk way which appeared to go above the rest of the Platt residence set.

"Misspent youth was had on thus staircase," the 34-year-old soap star captioned the snap. And many fans will remember the time David pushed his mum Gail, played by Corrie legend Helen Worth. down the stairs.

Paddy Bever, who plays Jack's on-screen son Max, was among the first to respond, writing: "Fuming. just found out there’s no upstairs." While Jamie Kenna, who recently exited the soap as Fiz Stape's ditched husband Phill Whittaker, commented: "WTF the house not real?!?!" Even EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt, who is famed for playing the BBC soap's Iain Beale replied: "Yep. #ifyouknowyouknow."

And Corrie fans also shared their own comments, with some nostalgic over the long-running soap's past and others surprised to see where the staircase really leads. @thedwwhitehouse commented: "I remember when you threw your Mum down those stairs." @dawsonstevie said: "POV Gail Platt having been shoved down said staircase."

@versace.the.afghanhound shared: "Ah, the infamous “push Gail down those stairs” scene!" @lalexander1803 asked in surprise: "So there’s no upstairs??" @salbearhinds shared: "Why did I think they were actual, real houses.... ruined it now!"

@gallaghersharlene replied: "This is up there with the disappointment I felt when I found out the washing machines in the laundrette in Eastenders aren’t real, and someone actually stands behind the wall manually turning them round." @li_sham83 said: "Now you've spoilt the illusion!" @alanrisk1 laughed: "Haha trade secrets . Naughty."

But fans also spotted something else that they think needs changing. @mandynanaof7 siad: "Just wish they would up date the decor !!! Jesus how old is the washing machine!!!!" @carlopicassodecoratorsltd commented: "Could do with a re decoration there!" @michelleford79 wrote: "2 questions,When do you think they will ever redecorate the houses and how many bedrooms are they."
