Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed the trouble he had with a former, four-legged co-star. Fans of the ITV soap were a bit concerned last month when the actor, who is famed for playing Weatherfield's David Platt, introuced a new member of the Platt family.
Jack took to Instagram to share a video of himself at his character's family home on the famous cobbles and could be seen holding a gorgeous terrier pup who appears to be the new 'David the Dog' on the street. Corrie fans will remember that the dog was formerly the pet of Mrs Moss, an old lady who was a regular at David's grandmother, Audrey's, hair salon and the dog was left to David following Mrs Moss' death.
Sharing the introductory video, Jack wrote: "First day at work. He was nervous but what a star in the making." He then added with crying laughing face emojis: "Thrilled he got the job, well done David." Those watching were quick to worry and wonder about what happened to the previous dog, before it was revealed it had sadly died.
Speaking exclusively to the Manchester Evening News as Coronation Street unveiled its Weatherfield Precinct for the first time, Jack appeared slightly confused by the new addition himself. "Is it a different breed?" he asked before he was told no, it's exactly the same breed but just been groomed in the style of a Schnauzer.
"Ah because everyone's been going, 'new dog, different breed'," Jack added before being asked about how the new cast member is settling in. "He's only done that one day so far, ease him in gently, but he's very good."
And Jack jokingly didn't hold back when it came to the previous furry friend who played his doggy namesake. "The other dog hated me! He bit me all the time, whenever I'd go near him." He added; "This one is friendly. Nervous, shaking a little but that's fine. He's very cute."
The soap star, 34, also spoke about how the stars behind the Platt family are feeling with a killer in their ranks. It's been a couple of months since Corrie viewers were left floored when David's uncle Stephen Reid turned to drastic measures to keep his money woes and plan to fleece his mother, Audrey Roberts, secret and killed Leo.
And earlier this week, viewers were thinking they had worked out the dastardly businessman could be about to kill again after sinister scenes. While still continuing to plot fleecing his mum out of her cash in the ITV soap, Stephen started working in secret as a delivery driver for a fast food company.
In Bolton, he was accosted by teenagers who stole his delivery box, work phone and demanded money. As Stephen spotted family friend Elaine Jones approaching he attempted to race away on his moped. But in his haste he lost control and went sprawling across the road. Elaine rushed to his aid and later joined him in the hospital, offering him a place to stay with her but it appears she dropped a clanger as she revealed her plans to sell her house.
"I think that's going to be a slow burn," Jack said of the Stephen storyline. "He's obviously going to be the next murderer, serial killer baddie on the street and usually when there is one of those characters it runs for a couple of years so I think there's more to come."
He added: "Anyone who comes into his path or has a storyline with Stephen could possibly end up on the chopping block. So any cast go, 'Oh c**p, I've got a scene with Stephen'. No one wants a scene with uncle Stephen at the moment because the writing might be on the wall."
