Charlotte Jordan has teased what viewers can expect from upcoming scenes when Daniel Osbourne pops the question to Daisy Midgley in Coronation Street. The couple have had their moments over the last year but the pair seem to be taking things seriously after a health scare makes them realise that life is to short.
Next week, fans of the ITV soap will see Daisy reveal that she’s found a lump in her breast. On Jenny Connor's advice, she tells a shaken Daniel who insists he’ll accompany her to the doctors, despite masking his anxiety. But as he knocks back drink in the Rovers, Jenny’s horrified to realise he’s let Daisy down.
Announcing that Daisy might have cancer, Daniel staggers out and it's left to Peter Barlow who persuades him that alcohol isn’t the answer and Daisy needs him by her side offering support. As Daisy attends her appointment alone, they’re interrupted when Daniel throws open the door and staggers in drunk.
And things don't look good for the pair as later, Daniel refuses to talk to Daisy, arguing he’s too weak to be of any support, leaving Adam Barlow to form a plan. Telling Daisy he understands her annoyance at Daniel's cowardice, he asks her to read the article he’s been writing and Daisy’s moved to read about how she’s helped him to love again after loss and rebuild his life.
With things seemingly being patched up between the pair Daisy and Daniel attend the appointment at the breast clinic together. And when Daniel reveals that his article failed to make the grade and won’t be published, Daisy urges him to take up teaching again as he’s wasting his talents.
With Daisy now seeing life with a new perspective following her cancer scare, it appears Daniel is also looking to the future and after asking for her blessing, Daniel shows Jenny the engagement ring he’s bought for Daisy and explains how he plans to surprise her.
Speaking about the sudden proposal, Charlotte told the Manchester Evening News that it was a "surprise" for Daisy but a "pleasant" one at that. When asked if the proposal was everything Daisy wants, Charlotte joked: "Do you want me to answer this question?"
While she suggested it was on the 'same day' as something else that appears to be important, the soap star went on to tease: "I think she gets swept up in the surprise of it and it is a very romantic thing on his [Daniels] part. I don't imagine it's the proposal she envisaged for herself. It's not as individual as it should have been for someone like Daisy but she's never going to say no to Daniel, she loves him."
Asked if Daisy and Daniel can go the distance, Charlotte said: "I think they really work well together," as Rob added: "I think so! There are enough differences between them for them to both be kept interested in each other." Charlotte then interjected: "So different but then they also do have, deep down, very similar things that connect them."
But can Daniel follow in his dad, Ken's lothario's footsteps? "I think he's a one person," Rob says of Daniel. "He's not a, 'Oh, this'll do for now'. He very much thinks what it's going to be like together when we're old. But he's a Barlow... Not by name but by nature so I imagine if he met a woman who was really close to him in terms of interests, especially if things weren't going too well with him and Daisy, who knows."
