ITV Coronation Street first-look wedding photos that include nod to the past

Coronation Street stars Isabella Flanagan and Macy Alabi look like the perfect bridesmaids in first-look pictures ahead of Fiz Stape and Phill Whittaker's wedding. The pair, who play Hope Stape and Ruby Dobbs in the ITV soap, were excitedly seen discussing taking on the important role a few months ago when Phill popped the question.

The proposal was somewhat of a surprise as it came at a time when Fiz was horrified to discover her new boyfriend was writing a book about her ex-husband, and serial killer, John Stape. It appeared that Tyrone Dobbs could have been in with a chance of rekindling things with her former partner.

However, Phill decided to apologise to Fiz one last time where he also decided to get down on one knee and propose, leaving her stunned. But she accepted his proposal and now spoiler pictures show the pair, dressed to impress, do make it the venue but whether they go through with it remains to be seen because as we know, anything can happen in soapland.

The bride and groom are set to face a series of setbacks ahead of their big day - from the arrival of Phill's glamour ex Camilla, to Phill's mother Mimi's involvement and just the small matter of the registrar being cancelled and Tyrone confessing his love to his ex-girlfriend.

What we do know is that Phill, Fiz and their guest do make it to a fancy wedding venue ready for the nuptials as pictures have already shown. But brand new images released by Coronation Street have seen the cast ready for the occasion - including Fiz looking beautiful in her modern gown and her daughters in their glitzy attire.

Fiz, played by Jennie McAlpine, can be seen in a white, off-the-shoulder dress that just reached her ankles. The outfit had been teamed with a matching pair of white heels while a veil had been attached to the back of her iconic locks which had been pinned back with some of her curls flowing down to frame her face.

Meanwhile, Phill star Jamie Kenna looks dapper in a grey three-piece suit with a buttonhole matching Fiz's bouquet. But in one snap, they were joined by Hope and Ruby who looked like butter wouldn't melt in pink dresses that had been adorned with sequins at the top before flowing into pleats at the bottom.

Speaking to press including the Manchester Evening News before the wedding scenes, Jennie was asked if she was involved in picking Fiz's wedding dress to which she replied with a laugh: "Yes... well, in that I tried it on and said, 'no that one doesn't fit, no, no and no' and we whittled it down to the only one I didn't say no to."

"I think she chose well," Jennie added before discussing how her young castmates found the experience. "The girls loved it but again, after 10 minutes they wanted to put their trackies on." As for how she enjoys filming with them now they're getting older, the Bury-born actress said: "I love them. Just scenes with them and our dysfunctional family that we've had, I love that. I love the buzz... it's like my house just in snippets and you can give the children back to the others so it's the best of both worlds."

She added of working with the whole clan, including Tyrone's grandmother Evelyn, played by Dame Maureen Lipman and recent arrivals Mimi and Camilla: "I'm definitely ready for her [Fiz] to make a choice [of either Tyrone or Phill]. But everyone's been lovely. I'm a bit of a creature of habit and I'm not great at change.

"I hope, I think when people come to the show, they do always say the green room is a really nice, welcoming place and really do hope that so we always try and welcome new people and they were lovely but I'm not good at change so I hope they enjoyed it."

But there's also set to be a nod to the past in the wedding scenes as when Tyrone declares he still loves his ex, he ends up presenting her with a special someone's earrings. "I forgot about that," Jennie says of her character being gifted Vera Duckworth's jewellery.

"We've put in two little nods. There was the earring and then there's another, quite a big nod to the past as well that I liked in that scene in what I'm wearing. The earrings... she doesn't know what to do with them and we remember Vera for her bright, big, colourful earrings - but these are not those! And are from Jack from an anniversary."
