ITV Coronation Street fans work out twist as shocking acid attack storyline confirmed for Daisy Midgeley

Coronation Street fans think they have worked out a shocking twist after it was confirmed that Daisy Midgeley will be involved in a terrifying acid attack. As viewers of the ITV soap know, the character, played by Charlotte Jordan, has been the victim of harassment and stalking by Justin Rutherford.

Daisy has been dealing with Justin's constant messages and appearances on the street for weeks after they first met in hospital in December while she waited for her test results following a cancer scare. But her efforts to get help from the police and from the courts, in the form of a Stalking Protection Order (SPO), has fallen on deaf ears.

In scenes aired last week, Justin's sister arrived at the Rovers after she saw Daisy's live video of her trying to get Justin to leave her alone and warned the barmaid to be careful as this isn't the first time Justin has become obsessed with someone. Daisy asked: "He's done this to someone else?" to which Karen, who was emotional over the loss of their mum, replied "and worse. When he gets obsessed with someone like this he's dangerous."

Karen then told Daisy about another girl who Justin had become attached to, saying: "He started following around the younger sister of one of my mates. Apparently they never actually went out, but he always made out like they were... sending her presents, hanging around her house. They had a massive argument in the park and she ended up with a black eye."

Daisy then decided to take matters into her own hands, meeting with Justin before deliberately provoking him, knowing that PC Craig Tinker was watching on his way with Daniel and he was able to quickly arrest the stalker for assault after he launched at Daisy, referring to her as a 'b***h'.

With Daisy relieved to have had Justin arrested, she has restarted planning her wedding but her excitement is set to turn to horror as Justin returns to Weatherfield to cruelly attack the Rovers Return barmaid with acid on her wedding day in a shocking new storyline. In dramatic scenes that will air next week, from Monday, March 27, Daisy is the target of a sinister act of revenge from her twisted stalker, played by Andrew Still.

The horrific attack is carried out just as Daisy is set to become Daniel Osbourne’s bride. Ryan Connor, played by Ryan Prescott, has stepped in as wedding chauffeur on her special day and they are both horrified to find Justin lurking in the shadows in the pub. Holding a glass full of clear liquid, he advances on Daisy and throws acid at her.

But after seeing the first-look photos of what's to come, Corrie fans have been left wondering if it'll be just Daisy who gets hurt. John Hercock wrote on Facebook: "Ok ok, Ryan will see what’s in his hand and dives at Justin as he throws acid - saves Daisy but get injured himself. Notice the bar flap is up, giving him a clear run."

Laure Banstead said: "Extremely depressing and horrific. No doubt poor Ryan will step in and he'll be the one to suffer. I'm just hoping Justin doesn't succeed in his plan." @amyle1 tweeted: "Oh and look poor Ryan unintentionally mixed up in it all again, let me guess, he steps in and the acid gets him instead?!?" @BallumsHouse asked: "Does anyone else think Ryan will pay the price trying to protect Daisy?"

Johanna Phillips added: "If this storyline is going to work they are going to have Togo big or go home they need to show the hideous side of this show the impact it has on a young girls life they should have it that daisy has to live with burns and how you can grow stronger should make it a bit like Katie on loose women show the impact it has on the rest of her life, this has become something that is done a lot , please coronation street don’t have that it misses her or Ryan saves her , this needs to be shown."

Coronation Street has worked alongside The Katie Piper Foundation and Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) after the soap decided to tell this story to highlight the devastating impact and long-lasting effects of such heinous attacks. The Katie Piper Foundation, launched by model Katie Piper who was left with extensive injuries after acid was thrown in her face in 2008 when she was 24 years old, delivers mental and physical rehabilitation to survivors of burns and traumatic scarring. And the ASTI works to end acid violence at a global level. In 2021 there were 420 reported acid attacks in the UK.
