Stephen Reid surprised his family when he appeared back in Weatherfield last month - just as his mother Audrey Roberts suffered a drunken accident. The character, played by Todd Boyce, returned to Coronation Street in a taxi just as his mum was pleading for help after falling in the barbers.
It came as Audrey's drinking appeared to take a dark turn and the former hairdresser was left alone in the barbers, Trim Up North, when she sacked grandson David Platt as well as Kelly Neelan and Maria Windass as she decided to drunkenly get back into her old trade.
After another confrontation with her daughter, Gail, Audrey drunkenly knocked into a display motorbike in the barbers and ended up trapped underneath it with her cries for help unheard. That was until the next day when Brian Packham and Eileen Metcalfe heard the quiet pleas just as Stephen's taxi pulled up. He was soon seen breaking down the door, worried for his mum, who he finds lying barely conscious on the floor of the barbers.

He was soon reunited with his family and appeared annoyed that they had left Audrey to get into such a state. He ended up going ahead of Gail and accompanying his mum in the ambulance to the hospital, and later, when Audrey woke from surgery, the character wasn't happy to see her daughter by her bedside and ordered her to leave, leaving Stephen with his mum.
However, Audrey has since left hospital and got back on her feet and the family have been spending time together again. But in a test to her family after recent events, the iconic character, played by Sue Nicholls, decided she was updating her will and leaving all her money to WARTS - the Weatherfield Association of Retail Traders – of which her late Alf was a member.
Her family were shocked and upset at being cast out of their mother and grandmother's will, losing any hope of inheritance. David was the most active, going to speak to his brother-in-law Adam Barlow about getting power of attorney over his grandmother. However, Stephen soon revealed to his niece and nephews that their gran was just testing them - and they failed.
She was also furious to learn of David's antics after she was told by longtime friend Ken Barlow about David's inquiries. Audrey did eventually tell her family that she loves them and will leave them her money, but it'll be held in a trust by Stephen. And it's fair to say they're not overly impressed.
Corrie fans were soon taking to social media to share their thoughts on what may happen next - and it's clear they don't trust Stephen as much as Audrey does. @kezzab333 tweeted: "Stephen in charge of trust funds. Risky move Audrey #Corrie." @conormckenna101 said: "I reckon Stephen’s in it for the money more that the rest of them #corrie."
@Clawmaw commented: "I don't trust Stephen. He seems shady AF and he gives me the creeps! I bet will rob all of Audrey's money! #Corrie." @macnamara60 predicted: "Right. That’s it. Stephen’ll defraud all the trust funds. #Corrie." @FLady1980 echoed: "#corrie big mistake Audrey, Stephen will do a runner back to Canada." @RyanGSoapKing11 added: "I don't trust Stephen #Corrie."
