Long running soap Coronation Street has tackled some diverse and topical subjects over the years, but its latest episode has been hailed as one of its 'best episodes in ages'. At the heart of the storyline was stalwart character Audrey Roberts, played by actress Sue Nicholls.
The show, which aired on Monday, August 16, 2022, saw Audrey confront her mental health issues and come clean to friends about a recent suicide attempt. Audrey shared the devastating news during an afternoon tea with friends Rita, Ken, Roy and Claudia.
Fans soon showed their thoughts on the episode and the topic. One person writing on Twitter said: "Who wrote tonight’s #Corrie cos it was the best written episode in a long time X" to which a fellow fan replied: "Absolutely brilliant episode - a master class by the old guard and a classic #Corrie episode".

Another viewer wrote: "And THAT is why @itvcorrie is the best show on TV" with someone else adding: "#Corrie Sue Nicholls reminding the country why she’s one of the greatest actresses in the world. @itvcorrie #CoronationStreet #eh?"
In a previous episode of the show, the well-known character had tried to take her own life with a overdose and had ended up in hospital after being discovered. At the time she had claimed it was an accident.
In the heart wrenching confession, Audrey said she felt useless. She added, things spiralled and missing her husband, Alf Roberts, who died in 1999, she had hit rock bottom. After confiding in her friends, who had encouraged her to take the antidepressants that she had been prescribed but not taken, Audrey was then shown kissing her wedding ring and saying “Life in the old girl yet, Alfie, love.”
One viewer summed up the episode saying: "That was one of the best episodes of @itvcorrie I’ve ever, ever seen. And I’ve been watching for 41 years. Sue Nicholls is a legend. #Audrey #Corrie"
