ITV axes Gino D'Acampo new show after two episodes in shock decision

ITV has reportedly abandoned Gino D'Acampo's cooking show after airing only two episodes.

The broadcaster allegedly decided to axe the programme as part of its most recent shake-up reports the Mirror.

Gino's Cooking Up Love aired on ITV at the end of 2022, with the much-loved chef helping singletons find romance through food choices.

After two episodes of the show - which is set in Sardinia - were aired, discussions between executives at ITV and production company Triple Brew ultimately resulted in dropping the programme, according to sources.

"There were meaningful discussions about commissioning further episodes, but ultimately it was decided to ditch the concept.

"ITV is still working with Gino on a number of other shows this year," a source told The Sun.

Gino's Cooking Up Love saw six single people go head to head in the kitchen in the hope of cooking up a storm to impress a potential true love.

The contestants were observed by Gino, as they all cooked alongside each other.

They also ventured out together on day trips visiting some gorgeous locations across the island.

Both episodes aired at the end of last year - and are still available to watch on ITVX.

The celebrity chef made his return to This Morning on Tuesday and mocked Phillip Schofield's dramatic exit from the daytime show.

Appearing on Tuesday morning, the 46-year-old referred to the scandal as he joined Holly and Dermot O'Leary in the studio.

When introducing himself and what delights he would be cooking up in the kitchen, Gino explained how he 'wasn't allowed to make anything with aubergines' before he quipped: "Everything is under control, I'm back. Anything in the news I should know?"

Dermot then looked at Holly and joked: "This is the last time we will ever see Gino on This Morning."

Earlier this year Gino "blindsided" his co-stars after announcing his sudden departure from ITV series Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip.

At the time, Gino revealed it would be impossible for him to continue the ITV travel and food show - reassuring fans that his friendships with his former colleagues had nothing to do with his quitting, and that his 'strong' bond with them meant more to him than arguments over contracts.

“Last week I decided not to film any more Gordon, Gino and Fred Road trips. The reason is very simple – nothing to do with Gordon or Fred, the friendship is very strong," he told his followers in a shock Instagram video post.

“It's just because we can't get the dates together and sometimes when we do get the dates together sometimes they get changed and it causes a lot of problems for me because I have other stuff that I have to do.

“Personal problems as well because when I have to change things with my family it is very complicated and also because of contracts.”

And in an interview with the Mirror following Gino's news, maitre d’ Fred said: "You just have to go with the flow in life, some things come and some things go. It was great, we enjoyed it, we had fun while it lasted and now it’s not going to happen anymore.”
