All Star Musicals is an ITV show that sees celebrities taking on theatre classics in a night that is described as "show-stopping entertainment". It is a competition - each celebrity will hope to be voted All Star Musical's champion after their performance.
The performers will go on "the ultimate musical theatre masterclass" to prepare for the show and will be mentored by giants of the musical theatre world.
Mentors this year include Elaine Paige OBE, Samantha Barks (Frozen, Les Miserables) and Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton, Aladdin). The celebrities will be supported by a live orchestra and a full West End ensemble, and will receive training from "esteemed West End choreographers and vocal coaches".
ITV says that the stars will be taking on some of the biggest musical theatre hits that will "range from traditional to contemporary, including; Frozen, Les Miserables, 42nd Street and Hamilton", and Alex Beresford tweeted a big clue about which one he will be taking on.
He wrote: "So excited to be taking on a huge hit for All Star Musicals from the biggest West End Musical. I’d love to tell you which one but for now we have to ‘let it go’". (For those who are not fans of musicals, 'Let It Go' is a giant song from the smash-hit Frozen).
Speaking about his upcoming appearance, Beresford said: “There’s a fine line between panic and excitement, but I can’t wait to challenge myself and feel the thrill of performing a musical number in front of a crowd. The acoustics in my shower are very sympathetic.”
Musical theatre is certainly no easy genre, but when done right it can capture an audience and introduce a whole new world on stage. Alex Beresford is up for the challenge - we all wish him the very best of luck.
All Star Musicals will air later this Spring on ITV and ITV Hub.
