'It's super impressive': Cody is running a half-marathon every day this month for Menslink

Cody Webb completed his first marathon in May.

Just two months later, the Fadden public servant is running a half-marathon every day in July to raise money and awareness for Menslink.

That's running just over 21 kilometres every day for the 31 days of July.

And he still has a smile on his face.

"I wanted to give myself a bit of a challenge," he said, in his understated way.

Via his GoFundMe page, Cody has already raised close to $6000 for Menslink, which provides counselling and mentoring for young men going through hard times.

Cody knew of the Canberra not-for-profit and wanted to support its work.

And feels after going through his own tough times in recent years, he probably should have given Menslink a call.

"Last year my parents divorced and that was obviously a big change," he said.

"My partner and I also split up after four years and it was sort of all happening at the same time. There was a lot of change and it was pretty hard to go through and I probably wasn't in the best place in the middle to end of last year."

Cody said friends, not drinking, and exercise helped him at the time.

Running helps, too.

If he's running by himself now, he doesn't take his phone.

"It just gives me time to think without any distractions and clear my head," he said.

Cody, a former student of Marist College, works for Home Affairs.

"I've always been sporty," he said. "I was a good cross-country runner at school. Out of school, I got more into the gym and golf, especially.

"The start of this year, I started running again. And trained for my first marathon and now this. And now I'm addicted to it."

Canberrans may see Cody out on his half-marathons for the rest of July.

"Probably the most common one I do is start at the yacht club, and then run to Weston Park, past the zoo and back to the yacht club," he said.

"Or it's a perfect half-marathon if you run from here [at home in Fadden], down to Lake Tuggeranong, do a lap of the lake and back to here."

The effort has been all the more incredible because Cody popped his Achilles in a game of Oztag on the fifth day of his running challenge.

"But, just over half-way, I'm feeling pretty good," he said.

The young man has been moved by how many people are supporting him and donating to Menslink.

"It's been incredible," he said.

Some supporters have joined him on the runs, including people completing their first half-marathon.

"My cousins came down from Sydney just for one night to run with me," he said.

"And other people who have just been getting into running and doing a little bit with me along the way."

Menslink CEO Ben Gathercole said the organisation had invited Cody to visit its headquarters at Holder on Thursday to thank him and explain more about their work to support men's health.

"Cody is an amazing guy," Mr Gathercole said.

"It's super impressive what he is doing."

The fundraising efforts by Cody were always appreciated, but so too was the awareness-building he was doing about the work of Menslink, supporting young men and boys as young as 10 facing challenges in their life, Mr Gathercole said.

"If you get the right support and counselling, things can be not as bad as they seem," he said.
