After months of build-up, after months of anticipation, the opening round of the 2023 Masters is less than 24 hours away. The gates of Magnolia Lane are open, and the best players in the world have migrated to Augusta, Georgia, where they’ll battle for the most coveted prize in all of golf: the green jacket.
World No. 1 and defending champion at Augusta National Golf Club, Scottie Scheffler, is the betting favorite at +650. Rory McIlroy is +750 while third-ranked Jon Rahm is next in line at +850.

Tiger Woods to make over 3.5 birdies in Round 1: +105
If you’re a real golf fan, Tiger has to be on your Masters card somewhere. His odds to make the cut aren’t worth the risk, and he’s -175 to finish inside the top 40. With this play, we can get something on Tiger for plus odds.
Tiger made three birdies in his opening round last year, including just one on the par 5s. If he takes care of the long holes this time around, he should hit this mark pretty easily.
Jordan Spieth, Max Homa and Jason Day to finish inside the top 20: +500
Jordan Spieth loves Augusta. Max Homa has been one of the best players in the world this year. Jason Day is close, real close, to returning to the player we saw in 2015.
This feels like a lock, which makes me nervous. But’ we’re riding with it.
Gordon Sargent to finish inside the top 40: +165
Gordon Sargent is a sophomore at Vanderbilt and is the top-ranked amateur in the world. He received a special invitation from ANGC for this year’s tournament.
On Monday, Sargent played a practice round with Justin Thomas and outdrove him by 20 yards on a regular basis. On Tuesday, he played nine holes with Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. Not a bad duo to learn from.
He cruises around 185 MPH ball speed with driver and will be able to take advantage of that length in wet conditions this week. Don’t be surprised is he claims low amateur.
Winning margin of 1 stroke: +225
Three of the last five Masters have been decided by one stroke. With Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm all playing high-level golf, it’s tough to see someone running away from the rest of the field like we saw last year or in 2020 when Dustin Johnson won by five.
This year’s edition should come down to the wire.
Rory McIlroy to finish inside top 5, Tony Finau to finish inside top 10 and Xander Schauffele to finish inside top 20: +1400
I mean, this might be stealing money.
McIlroy enters the week as prepared as he could possibly be as he chases the career grand slam. Finau has seven top-20 finishes in eight starts in 2023 and has finished inside the top 10 at the Masters three times. Before missing the cut last season, Schauffele had three straight top 20s at the Masters including two top 3s.
This feels like a layup — which admittedly makes me nervous.
