Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama took the NBA court for the first time in his career on Wednesday night in a highly anticipated, season-opening matchup against the Mavericks.
Standing at 7’ 4”, it unsurprisingly only took Wembanyama 35 seconds to get his first block, and it was against Dallas star Kyrie Irving. Right on cue, the San Antonio crowd went absolutely wild to see what very well could be a significant moment in NBA history.
The block seemed so effortless for this year’s No. 1 pick, as he barely had to jump off the ground to alter Irving’s two-point attempt. Check out the already monumental highlight.

After the block, it took the Frenchman about three and a half minutes to make his first NBA basket as he drained a 26-foot three-point basket from the top of the arc.
Wembanyama’s early performance Wednesday night backs the feeling that the hype around the 19-year-old sensation will likely not go down for quite some time.
