Roy Keane and Gary Neville both believe that Harry Kane was fouled by Dayot Upamecano in the first half of England's World Cup quarter-final against France.
The United greats said, in their view, the referee should have blown up for a foul when Dayot Upamecano tangled with Kane close to the penalty area on 25 minutes. Play was halted to await the outcome of a VAR check but England were left disappointed as the officials said nothing doing.
Speaking at half-time on ITV, Neville said a foul should have been given, but thought the tackle occurred just outside the area. He said: “Upamecano has tried to win the ball three or four times in that first-half where it’s impossible to win the ball.

“First with [Bukayo] Saka then with Kane, I think it is a simple decision. It’s not the first one, it’s that one there he kicks it away. I’m not quite sure why that’s not a foul.
“They’ve been giving free-kicks for that - he’s nibbling, nibbling, nibbling and he’s kicked him. It should be a free-kick.” Fellow pundit Ian Wright said he was “surprised” by the VAR decision to which Keane interjected: “It’s a penalty isn’t it? You have to say that.”
Wright responded: “They might’ve thought it was outside the box with the foul they’ve not given it because they can’t go back on it,” to which Keane added: “I still think it’s a penalty.”
Kane went on to take two penalties in the second half, scoring one and missing one as England crashed out of the World Cup 2-1.
