Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed criticism aimed at Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst after their humiliating defeat to Liverpool.
The Reds claimed a 7-0 win over their bitter rivals at Anfield in the Premier League clash on Sunday. It saw Liverpool move up to fifth place in the table and three points adrift of the top four.
Liverpool’s victory was the biggest over Man United in the club’s entire history. The Reds now trail United by seven points in the league table.

A video surfaced in the aftermath of the game showing Weghorst reaching to touch the ‘This is Anfield’ sign in the Main Stand tunnel. The famous sign is traditionally touched by Liverpool players before they walk out to take on their opponents.
Weghorst took to social media in the aftermath of the video to explain the reason behind why he touched the sign. The Netherlands striker says that he was trying to wind up countryman Virgil van Dijk before the match started.
Now Agbonlahor has labelled the criticism aimed at Weghorst as “pathetic”. The former Aston Villa striker says that he used to touch the sign when he was an opposing player at Anfield.
“I think it’s pathetic,” Agbonlahor told Talksport. “I touched it when I played at Anfield, it’s not a problem, to wind up the opposition.
“It’s a bit of banter between teams, it’s nothing. Weghorst shouldn’t have to bring a statement out to be honest.
“I think people like to make big things out of small things that he’s done, but I will look more at, ‘Oh I’ve done that and we’ve lost 7-0’.
“That’s probably what he’s thinking, he’s tried to be cheeky and have banter before the game and do that but he’s lost 7-0 – it’s more embarrassing.
“But I’m not sure Liverpool fans have a problem with him touching it, or Manchester United fans really.”
