It's official. Milton Keynes is the best town or city in the UK for green spaces

Milton Keynes has been declared the best town or city in the UK for green spaces, coming well ahead of the pack, new research has revealed.

Betpack.com (https://www.betpack.com/) conducted a survey, analysing a variety of urban locations around the country. Living spaces across the land are becoming increasingly more frequented by tall buildings, and the disconnection between people and nature is increasing at an alarming rate.

Parks are a vital part of any urban landscape, providing green spaces for relaxation, exercise, and recreation, which is why the availability of parks per capita is an important metric to gauge the quality of life in any city or town.

The researchers decided to analyse the data from Open Street Maps in order to find out which UK towns and cities are the best for escaping the urban jungle and enjoying some greenery

And at a whopping 15m² of park space per 10 inhabitants, Milton Keynes, the home of the concrete cows, grid road system and modernist architecture, comes way out in the lead.

The abundance of green space in Milton Keynes is no surprise given the town's commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness.

Pipping Peterborough to second spot is Warrington, with the Cheshire industrial town enjoying 6.1m² of park space per 10 inhabitants, with Peterborough at 6m².

Although a much lower amount than Milton Keynes, it is still a respectable figure and offers plenty of opportunities for residents to enjoy outdoor activities.

Dundee was the highest-ranked Scottish town/city on the list (Jane Barlow/PA)

The city of Peterborough is home to several large parks, including Ferry Meadows and Nene Park, which offer a range of recreational activities.

Ranking fourth is Northampton, as it has 5.26m² of park space per 10 inhabitants. The town has several beautiful parks, like Abington Park and Bradlaugh Fields and Stoke-on-Trent is next, with 5.1m². The city's largest park is Hanley Park, which was recently renovated and restored to its former Victorian splendour.

Completing the top ten are Coventry (4.85m²), Leeds (4.4m²), Wolverhampton (3.8m²), Exeter (3.7m²) and Dundee (3.65m²), the latter of which is the highest-rated Scottish location.

Dundee’s largest park is Camperdown Park, which has a wildlife centre, an adventure playground, and a golf course. Glasgow is the next Scottish place on the list with 3.4m².
