'It's not up for discussion' - Steve Morison says he already knows who will be at Cardiff City next season

Steve Morison has suggested that decisions have already been made over Cardiff City's out-of-contract stars.

Morison has confirmed that goalkeeper Alex Smithies will be departing when his contract ends at the end of the season, and there are still real questions hanging over the futures of nine other first-team stars. The likes of Leandro Bacuna, Isaac Vassell, Josh Murphy and Ciaron Brown all look destined to move on at the end of the current campaign, but there is clearly less certainty on a number of others.

Joe Ralls, Sean Morrison, Aden Flint, Will Vaulks and Marlon Pack may all feel they have a case for staying in the capital, and it remains to be seen what will come next, with Morison set to oversee a major overhaul of his playing squad. Speaking ahead of his side's Easter Monday clash with Luton, he said: "There’s opportunities for everybody.

"We know where we’re going as a football club. It’s not something that I’m going to talk about because it’s not the right thing to do.

"But we know what’s going on behind the scenes and with what’s going on at the football club. As I’ve said before, you guys [the media] will see all that information coming out over the summer. The only one I’ve been happy to talk about is the Alex Smithies one as we knew it was a question that would be raised given he wasn't involved in the last couple of games."

When asked whether there was an opportunity for any players to change his mind in these last remaining games, Morison replied: "It’s not really up for discussion. We know where we're going as a football club. We know who’s going to be here next year, who’s not going to be here.

"As I’ve said, you guys will find out all of that as and when we release the information. Up until that point we’ll continue to work and try and get results and we’ll use everybody when they’re available as and when we need to."

At the moment, the City boss is clearly keen to ensure his side finish on a high, having been left frustrated by their defensive shortcomings during the 2-1 defeat to Hull City on Saturday.

"We play football to win and if we hadn’t been so sloppy in the first 10 minutes on Friday we would have possibly won that game," he added. "We’re trying to win the game tomorrow.

"Experimental is the wrong word. Looking forward to next season isn’t really the right phrase either. We’re just trying to give the players that belief and confidence to express themselves as much as they can. We have got the luxury in that we're not as stressed as we could have been at this stage of the season.

"We have a fully fit squad. It would be nice to end the season on a real positive mood and then we can release information to give people a clearer picture of where we’re going."
