Kevin De Bruyne has warned his Manchester City teammates that the race for the Premier League title is far from over.
City’s run of 12 successive top flight wins came to an end on Saturday, as the league leaders were held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton.
Liverpool in particular capitalised on City’s first league game without a win since October, by beating Crystal Palace to close the gap to nine points.
Jurgen Klopp’s side also have a game in hand and travel to the Etihad on April 9.
After a far from convincing festive period from Liverpool and Chelsea, many felt that the three way title race had turned into little more than a procession for Pep Guardiola's side.
However, De Bruyne is adamant that nothing has been decided yet.
“Obviously the schedule in December is a lot of games following each other and we managed to win them all, so obviously we are in a good run," he told City TV .
“We have a little bit of a gap but we want to try and maintain that. Sometimes when you win a lot of games that is the moment where you slow down a little bit, but we're trying to to keep that level up and keep the intensity up as much as we can.
“We have been able to do that quite a few times over the years. We know it's not over because we've done it in the past – been behind that many points and turned it around. It (the lead) can go quickly but hopefully it doesn't, obviously. ”
