'It’s an insult to Jimmy': Brother of torture victim's anger as killers’ accomplice set to be freed from prison

She played a role in one of the North East's most violent and shocking murders.

But torture accomplice Kay Rayworth is now set to be freed from prison next month.

Rayworth was jailed for 12 years after being convicted in connection with the harrowing death of vulnerable dad Jimmy Prout, in Percy Main, near North Shields.

But now just six years on from the brutal slaying, which stunned the region, Rayworth is set to be released next month.

And today Jimmy's brother has told of his fury that she will be back on the streets so soon.

Eddie Prout, 57, said: "Six years is nothing to me. It's a slap on the wrists. It seems like Jimmy's life counts for nothing. It's an insult to Jimmy."

Jimmy, who suffered from learning difficulties, died after he was held captive at a home in Percy Main and subjected to a campaign of grotesque violence.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how twisted Zahid Zaman subjected Jimmy, from Scotswood in Newcastle, to unbelievable cruelty while keeping him at his house, on St Stephen’s Way.

Jimmy died on February 9, 2016, and his body was discovered more than a month later on wasteland near the Tyne Tunnel.

The court heard how disabled Zaman was the leader of a cult-like group of women, which included Rayworth, Ann Corbett and Myra Wood.

Zaman and Corbett attacked Jimmy, while Rayworth and Wood stood by and did nothing to help.

Zaman cut out one of Jimmy's testicles and forced him to eat it, knocked his teeth out with a hammer and chisel and forced him to have to sex with a dog.

The court was also shown images captured on CCTV of a frail and injured Jimmy being dragged around in public by his tormentors in the days before his death.

Corbett can be seen pushing reluctant Jimmy, 45, in the back as he is shuttled between two houses on February 5.

And the following day Rayworth is caught on camera grabbing Jimmy’s forearm as she drags him towards 35 St Stephen’s Way, with callous Corbett in tow.

The months of abuse and fear then seem to overcome the victim, as CCTV appears to capture his collapse as he is shuttled once again by the murderous cult.

After a trial in 2017 serial liar Zaman, then 43, was convicted of murder and jailed for life with a minimum of 33 years behind bars. Corbett, then 26, was also found guilty of murder and given a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years.

Rayworth, 56, and 50-year-old Wood, were cleared of the killing but convicted of for causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult and perverting the course of justice. Both were jailed for 12 years.

Eddie received a letter from the probation service last week informing him that Rayworth would be released during the week commencing May 23.

He added: "I don't think she should be out. She played a big part in it. She's got off lightly."
