Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes Manchester United are still 'miles away' from being mentioned in the same breath as his former club and Manchester City, as Erik ten Hag prepares for his first season in charge at Old Trafford.
United were twice thumped by the Reds domestically last season, with former interim boss Ralf Rangnick even opting to leave his consultancy role following the end of the 21/22 campaign.
Having recruited Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez so far this summer, Johnson believes his former club still have a stronger pulling power over the Old Trafford giants.

Speaking exclusively to Genting, the 37-year-old said: "At the moment, 100% [Liverpool are a more attractive club than Manchester United]. It's a no brainer.
"There was a period where players would want to go to United but those days are gone. United are miles away from being an attractive prospect and are miles behind Liverpool," Johnson added.
Liverpool will not have to wait long to once again face off against ten Hag's new look United side, with the two team's set to face off in the Premier League on August 22.
Jurgen Klopp's men will hope to continue their strong form at Old Trafford too, have not lost there domestically since March 2018.
With Champions League qualification a clear incentive having missed out last season, United do have European football for the former Ajax boss to contend with and will compete in this year's UEFA Conference League.
