Queensland winger Selwyn Cobbo idolises his NSW counterpart Josh Addo-Carr but reckons he has him covered in a foot race.
It is a big call, because the man known as The Foxx was clocked at 38.7 km/h last year, making him the fastest player in the game.
Brisbane flyer Cobbo, a right winger, won't be marking Addo-Carr in the State of Origin series opener in Adelaide on May 31 as the Blues speedster is also slated to play on the right.
"He is pretty fast but I think I have got him. We will have to wait and see," Cobbo grinned when asked if he was quicker than Addo-Carr.
"I've never played against him in an Origin game but I can't wait. It is Murri versus Koori.
"Foxx is inspirational to me and a lot of Indigenous kids. He has been there, done that.
"He is a proud Aboriginal man and I want to be like him on and off the field when I grow up. I am a proud Wakka Wakka man."
Cobbo has scored nine tries this year and is dynamic bringing the ball back but said he intended to work with Maroons coach Billy Slater on his handling. He has an NRL-high 22 errors this season.
"I guess I need to fix my handling errors. They are pretty up-there," he said.
"I try to have a crack with everything I do and I will keep doing that but I have got to work on taking the high bombs.
"I will try and learn more about it with Billy in this camp. I guess it is about concentration and trying not to over-think."
Cobbo, who hails from the Indigenous community of Cherbourg, has embraced his culture and was proud to visit his home town with Johnathan Thurston recently for a feature story for Channel Nine.
"It was good to go back home with JT and show everyone the Broncos' Indigenous jersey. The kids loved it. It was special," he said.
"I went back to my old school and saw everyone I could."
Cobbo is being mentored by Broncos legend and Indigenous leader Steve Renouf, who he has worked with promoting healthy lifestyles with the Deadly Choices program.
"Steve has been very helpful on my journey," Cobbo said.
"He is from the same place as me and he is someone to lean on if I get stuck in certain areas. I have worked work with him and he has given me heaps of advice.
"He has told me to be proud of who I am, to go out and do my best and have fun. I try to do that every game.
"Last year was my first full NRL season. There were ups and downs but I got a lot out of this Maroons camp on and off the field with (Maroons assistant coach) JT and Billy helping me."
