‘It didn’t even meet OUR editorial standards’: Sunday Sport trolls the BBC’s Alan Dershowitz interview

The BBC was forced to apologise after hosting an interview with Alan Dershowitz following the Ghislaine Maxwell verdict – and now, the Sunday Sport has turned to troll the news outlet.

The BBC stepped forward with an official statement on social media.

They highlighted that the interview did not “meet the BBC’s editorial standards” and admitted that the high-profile US lawyer, who represented paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, “wasn’t a suitable person to interview.”

The BBC’s full statement read: “Last night’s interview with Alan Dershowitz after the Ghislaine Maxwell verdict did not meet the BBC’s editorial standards, as Mr Dershowitz was not a suitable person to interview as an impartial analyst, and we did not make the relevant background clear to our audience.

“We will look into how this happened.”

In a “well played” response from the Sunday Sport, a tabloid newspaper known for its celebrity gossip, satirical stories and glamour models, jokingly highlighted that the BBC “didn’t even meet OUR editorial standards.”

“That’s putting it mildly. It didn’t even meet OUR editorial standards,” they said.

The comment has since gone viral on social media with thousands of RTs, likes and an influx of hilarious responses.

One fellow Twitter user highlighted: “We’re living in an age where the Sunday Sport can legit call out the BBC on editorial standards.”

Another called it the “tweet of the day.” “Never thought we’d see the day when the Sunday Sport earned Tweet of the Day for such a perfectly worded, erudite put-down, but here it is,” they said.

One Twitter user even put out feelers for a new social media editor. “We’re hiring social media editors, just saying,” they proposed.

Another added: “Very late contender for burn of the year here.”

Fifty points for the Sunday Sport.
