Turkey saw hundreds of people gather in Istanbul on Tuesday as they marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Many walked toward Taksim Square despite road closures, holding signs and calling for better protection for women in Turkey.
The crowd repeated its demand for the country to return to the Istanbul Convention, the European treaty that set clear rules to prevent abuse and support survivors.
Turkey helped launch it in 2011 but later withdrew, a move that sparked years of criticism from rights groups. Activists say the situation remains urgent.
They point to rising reports of violence and the lack of enough support centres for women seeking safety. For many on the streets, the message was simple: protection must improve and promises must lead to action.
