ISSF World Championship: Indian men bag 10m air pistol team bronze

NEW DELHI: India's ISSF World Championship campaign began on an unsatisfactory note, as none of the six 10m air pistol shooters competing on Thursday were able to secure a quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics, though the men did win a consolation bronze medal in the team event.

With an aggregate score of 1734, the men's 10m air pistol team of Shiva Narwal (579 points), Sarabjot Singh (578) and Arjun Singh Cheema (577) won bronze.

The Chinese team of Zhang Bowen (587), Liu Junhui (582) and Xie Yu (580) won gold with a total of 1749 points, while the German team of Robin Walter (586), Michael Schwald (581) and Paul Froehlich (576) got silver with a total of 1743 points.

On a day when the Chinese shooters took all four gold medals up for grabs, the Indian men fared poorly in the solo 10m air pistol event, with none making it to the eight-player final.

Narwal (579 points) finished 17th following the qualification round, while Sarabjot (578 points) finished 18th. Cheema came in 26th place with a qualifying round score of 577.

Individual gold went to China's Bowen (244.3), while silver and bronze went to Serbia's Damir Mikec (240.8) and Bulgaria's Kiril Kirov (215.7).

The Indian ladies performed even worse, with Esha Singh (572), Palak (570), and Divya TS (566) combining for 1708 points to finish 11th in the team event.

The Chinese won the team gold medal with an aggregate score of 1728, followed by Hungary (1726) and Iran (1724).

Esha finished 32nd in the individual category with a score of 572, while Palak finished 40th with a score of 570. Divya finished 66th overall with a score of 566.

Individual gold went to China's Jiang Ranxin (239.8), with Greece's Anna Korakaki (238.3) and China's Li Xue (218.9) taking silver and bronze, respectively.

The World Championship also serves as a qualification tournament for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
