The Israeli military recently unveiled new video footage capturing a tank firing at a building where Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar had sought refuge following a confrontation with Israeli soldiers. The video depicts the tank targeting the already damaged structure, followed by smoke and dust billowing out of its windows upon impact.
According to an Israel Defense Forces statement accompanying the video, the incident unfolded after three individuals, identified as 'terrorists,' engaged in gunfire and grenade attacks against IDF troops in the Tel al-Sultan area of Rafah. When the IDF forces retaliated, the group dispersed, with two individuals seeking shelter in one building and Sinwar retreating to another.
Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, the IDF's international spokesperson, revealed that two of the suspects attempted to conceal themselves with blankets, while Sinwar sustained an arm injury during the exchange of fire. Subsequently, the IDF deployed a drone to assess the situation, capturing footage of Sinwar seated in an armchair with an injured arm, gazing directly at the camera before hurling an object towards the drone.
Shortly after the drone footage was obtained, the IDF targeted the building housing Sinwar with a tank shell, resulting in his elimination. Shoshani expressed optimism that this development would positively impact the relations between Israel and Gaza.
