Israeli Strikes Kill Dozens In Lebanon, Escalating Tensions

Aftermath of Israeli strike, in Rafah

Over the weekend, Israeli strikes in Lebanon resulted in a significant loss of life and injuries. In central Beirut, a multi-story residential building was flattened, causing the death of 29 individuals. The attack, which utilized 'bunker-busting' bombs, led to at least 66 people being injured. Despite the strike, no senior Hezbollah member was reported to be in the building at the time.

Israel's Defense Forces did not issue an evacuation order prior to the strikes, and the IDF has not yet commented on the attack. The strikes in Beirut and across Lebanon come amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.

Reports indicate that Israeli strikes also targeted various locations outside of Beirut, resulting in casualties. In eastern Lebanon, a strike in the town of Shmistar claimed the lives of at least 13 people, including four children. Additionally, strikes in other towns in the same region caused further casualties.

Clashes between Israel and Hezbollah fighters continue in southern Lebanon, with reports of heavy fighting near the town of Khiam. Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks against Israel, stating that their actions are in defense of Lebanon and its people.
