Nine people lost their lives and one individual sustained injuries following an Israeli strike on the northern Lebanese village of Aitou on Monday. The tragic incident was confirmed by Lebanon’s health ministry, which also mentioned that rescue operations and debris removal efforts are currently underway.
This marks the first time the village of Aitou has been targeted since the onset of the ongoing conflict a year ago, as reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA). According to NNA, a military aircraft carried out the raid on a residential apartment in Aitou.
The Israel Defense Forces have been contacted for a statement regarding the airstrike.
Aitou is situated approximately 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) north of Beirut and falls within the Zgharta District in northern Lebanon. The village is known for its predominantly Christian population.
