Israeli Military Withdraws Troops From Khan Younis

Israeli military units operate at an undisclosed location near the Gaza Strip border

The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it is withdrawing its troops from the southern city of Khan Younis, relocating them to the border of Gaza and Israel. This move, coinciding with the six-month anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks, may impact the ceasefire talks scheduled in Cairo, where both Israeli and Hamas delegations are expected to participate.

While the withdrawal from Khan Younis raises questions about the planned operation in Rafah, it does not diminish the presence of Israeli forces within Gaza. Significant forces remain stationed in the northern part of the enclave, with the remaining troops now positioned along the Netzarim Corridor.

The death toll in Gaza since October 7 has tragically reached at least 33,175, with 75,886 reported injuries, as per the Ministry of Health in the enclave. These figures are yet to be independently verified by CNN.

Plans for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza via the Erez crossing have been delayed, with the United Kingdom deploying a Navy ship to assist in boosting aid efforts. Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces targeted a Hezbollah military compound and command center in southern Lebanon, signaling a shift from defense to offense in operations along the northern border.

In response to heightened tensions, the US is on high alert and preparing for potential attacks by Iran or its proxies. The UK has emphasized that its support for Israel is contingent on adherence to humanitarian laws in Gaza, urging compliance with international standards.

Reports have emerged regarding the treatment of detained Palestinians, with a doctor describing deplorable conditions and routine amputations due to handcuff injuries at an Israeli army base. Anti-government protests have also continued in Israel, with demonstrators calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and early elections.
