The Israeli military announced that it targeted Hezbollah's largest precision-guided missile production site in Lebanon before the ceasefire agreement took effect early Wednesday morning. The site, measuring 1.4 kilometers in length, was located in an underground compound in the Janta area of Lebanon's Beqaa valley near the Syrian border. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the site was utilized for the production of surface-to-surface missiles.
The IDF stated that the proximity of the site made it a crucial hub for smuggling weapons components and terrorist operatives between Syria and Lebanon. Prior to striking the compound, the military conducted multiple attacks on nearby Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure. The IDF emphasized that the strike was carried out based on precise intelligence gathered over the years.
Before the ceasefire was announced on Tuesday evening, Israel intensified its airstrikes on Lebanon, targeting central areas of Beirut for the first time, not limited to the Hezbollah-dominated southern suburbs. The ceasefire has largely held since its implementation.
