The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it had conducted an airstrike in Lebanon, targeting and killing a significant commander in a Hezbollah anti-tank unit. The commander, Ismail Al-Zin, was responsible for numerous anti-tank missile attacks against Israeli civilians, communities, and security forces.
The strike took place near the town of Kounine in southern Lebanon, where a vehicle carrying Al-Zin was targeted by an Israeli drone-launched guided missile. Hezbollah confirmed Al-Zin's death in a statement but did not provide details on his title or the circumstances of his death.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported that a drone strike had occurred on a car in Kounine, with the Israeli military intercepting several rockets launched towards Israel from southern Lebanon prior to the strike on Al-Zin. In response to the rocket launches, the IDF targeted Hezbollah's military infrastructure and launch posts.
Hezbollah, a powerful Iran-backed paramilitary group, has been engaged in increased hostilities with the IDF along the border between southern Lebanon and northern Israel since recent attacks on October 7th. The ongoing tensions between the two sides have escalated with exchanges of fire and retaliatory strikes.
