Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich are currently engaged in discussions regarding the emerging Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal. Spokesmen for both leaders have confirmed the meeting, highlighting its importance as a critical test of Netanyahu's political resolve to secure an agreement.
While Smotrich has expressed strong opposition to the deal in recent days, he has not gone as far as National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who has threatened to withdraw from Netanyahu's governing coalition if the deal proceeds. Ben Gvir has urged Smotrich to join forces with him in an attempt to bring down the Israeli government.
