As the Paris Opera introduces his contemporary pieces “In Your Rooms” and “Uprising” to their repertoire, Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter tells us about collaborating with the prestigious institution, and how they "bent over backwards" to accommodate his experimental work. With Shechter’s recent piece "Contemporary Dance" coming to the stage a Paris's La Villette venue, he discusses how music and movement can supplant a cerebral conception of art and why he likes to "poke the bear" when it comes to audience expectations.
The choreographer also tells us why he loved the challenge of playing himself in French director Cédric Klapisch’s latest film "En Corps", and why the human experience is at the centre of everything he creates.
