The head of a hospital in northern Gaza has described a dire situation as the facility faces continuous Israeli bombardment. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, reported that a UN aid mission was prevented from reaching the hospital, leaving patients awaiting evacuation stranded.
Dr. Abu Safiya emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that the hospital is facing significant challenges amid the ongoing Israeli military offensive in the region. A UN delegation, which was supposed to deliver essential supplies including fuel, medical teams, and food, was denied entry.
Furthermore, 13 patients who had received permission to be evacuated to Gaza City were unable to be transferred due to Israeli restrictions. The Israeli military cited 'ongoing difficult events' as the reason for preventing the patients from being moved.
Currently, the patients, accompanying staff, and members of the World Health Organization are stranded at the hospital. Dr. Abu Safiya mentioned that a new attempt to transfer them is planned for early Monday.
Over the weekend, an Israeli strike in northern Gaza resulted in the deaths of at least 87 people, according to the enclave's health ministry. Dr. Abu Safiya expressed concerns that the death toll could be even higher, potentially reaching 95 when accounting for individuals still trapped under the rubble.
