Recent Israeli airstrikes on homes in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza have led to a tragic loss of life. Hospital officials and Gaza’s Civil Defense have reported that at least 13 people were killed in the strikes. The toll resulted from two separate strikes within the camp.
In response to inquiries about the airstrikes, the Israel Defence Source (IDF) stated that they targeted terror sites in the Gaza Strip, including terrorists and infrastructure in the Nuseirat area. The IDF emphasized its efforts to minimize harm to civilians and its compliance with international law in targeting Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations.
Reports indicate that a residential block south of Nuseirat was also hit, resulting in additional casualties. Residents in the area, such as Mahdi Abdullah, expressed the challenges of living amidst the ongoing conflict and the urgent need for calm.
The Israeli military has previously conducted deadly strikes in Nuseirat, including targeting UN-run schools sheltering displaced individuals. The military defended these actions by claiming they were aimed at Hamas compounds operating within the schools.
Gaza residents in Nuseirat described a constant state of fear and a worsening humanitarian crisis. Rahma Abu Hajjaj, a mother of five, highlighted the lack of warnings and the indiscriminate nature of the bombings, leaving civilians in a perpetual state of uncertainty.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the recent military operations have resulted in 37 deaths and 54 injuries in the past 24 hours alone. The total number of casualties since October 7 has reached 38,919 deaths and 89,622 injuries, with the ministry not distinguishing between civilians and combatants.
Israel initiated a ground campaign in Gaza following attacks by Hamas on October 7, leading to a significant escalation in violence and loss of life in the region.
