The recent Israeli airstrikes on the Nabatiyeh commercial center have left a trail of destruction and chaos in their wake. According to civil defense official Hussein Faqih, the scale of the devastation is both shocking and painful to witness.
Faqih, who serves as the director of the Lebanese Civil Defense in Nabatiyeh, described the aftermath of the airstrikes as unprecedented. He noted that it took hours for rescue workers to bring the fires under control at 20 different locations within the commercial center.
Tragically, one person lost their life in the attack, and a dozen others sustained injuries. Additionally, approximately 15 buildings and 30 shops were either destroyed or severely damaged, including the historic Old Mosque located nearby.
Faqih emphasized that the situation could have been far worse if not for the mass displacement of residents who had fled the area due to previous bombardments. He expressed grave concern that had the strike occurred during the day, it could have resulted in a massacre.
The ongoing efforts to clear the rubble and assess the full extent of the damage are still underway as rescue workers continue their tireless work in the aftermath of this tragic event.
